The photo worth keeping
About 3 unhurried minutes. Every question is optional.
Optional soft ambience. Your reading is complete with the sound off.

The message arrives
A photo arrives in the group chat.
Someone caught the table just as everyone started laughing. The plates are pushed aside. A sleeve is rolled up. There is a glass someone forgot to refill.
Perhaps you remember the evening. Perhaps the first thing you notice is your face.
You do not have to decide whether you like the photograph yet. There is more in it to look at.

Look around the table
For a moment, look past the faces.
What tells you this was a real evening? A crooked napkin. Someone leaning in to hear. The last piece of bread. A chair pulled closer to the table.
Choose a detail you might otherwise miss. There is no right answer. The small, ordinary things are part of what happened too.

What the camera missed
A photograph can show where people sat. It cannot keep the whole conversation.
Maybe there was a story you had heard before and wanted to hear again. Maybe the food took too long. Maybe you laughed at something that would be impossible to explain now.
If an evening comes to mind, finish this privately: The part I want to remember is...
A few words are enough. You can also keep the answer to yourself.
Your words stay in this page until you leave or clear them. They are not sent or saved.

Let the frame get wider
You may still have an opinion about the way you look. This does not ask you to replace it with a compliment.
It asks for a little more of the picture.
You were there, listening, speaking, passing something across the table. You helped make the evening that someone wanted to remember.
There can be room for that part as well.

A caption that remembers
If you were naming this photograph for yourself, what would you call it?
The dinner that ran late.
Everyone talking at once.
An ordinary Tuesday worth keeping.
Or something only the people there would understand.
A caption can tell the story you want to find when you open the photo again.
Your words stay in this page until you leave or clear them. They are not sent or saved.

A note to keep
Take the card if it is useful. You might add it to a photo caption, write it in a notebook or leave the thought here.
The next time someone sends a picture, you have another place to start looking.
